Salamon's Inc. didn't start with a business plan. It started with a stuffed pink platypus.
When I was four years old, my family moved into a new house in Yuma, Arizona. There was a red double bunk bed in one of the bedrooms, and on it sat two stuffed animals waiting for us: a blue platypus on the top bunk and a pink one on the bottom. My older brother climbed up and claimed the top. I got the bottom, and I got the pink platypus.
That platypus has been with me through every season of my life since. Every move. Every chapter. Every change. It sat with me as a kid, traveled with me into adulthood, and now it lives with my daughters.
When I started building businesses years later, the first one I formed was The Pink Platypus Group. It was the launchpad, the creative space where ideas could become real things, and it became the seed for everything that followed.
Salamon's Inc. is what grew from that seed. It is built on the same things that little platypus represents to me: constancy through change, care passed from one generation to the next, and the belief that the things worth building are the things meant to last.
We're not trying to be the biggest. We're trying to be the kind of home where good businesses can grow for generations.
We believe the best businesses solve real problems for real people. We believe in patient capital, long horizons, and treating the people inside our companies the way we would want our own family treated.
